1. Field Marshal KM Cariappa was the first Indian General ,who took over as Chief of Indian Army , after Independence in 1949. . The day of takeover, 15 January , is celebrated as Army Day in India . The birthday of this legendary Field Marshal falls on 28 January. The birthday was celebrated by NCCHWO and Kodavasamja Bangalore on 28 January at 6 PM, under the leadership of Dr. Vasanth Poovaiah, NCCHWO State President, Karnataka. Field Marshal KM Cariappa is a source of motivation and inspiration for the soldiers and public of India. He is an legend in Coorg and many youth join Armed Forces ,taking motivation from his life . So many folk lores and stories are told in Coorg about the bravery and leadership skills displayed by the Field Marshal , during his lifetime .As a mark of tribute to Field Marshal Cariappa, NCCHWO decided to donate 300 blankets to poor and underprivileged people in Bangalore,Karnataka. Also, around 200 blankets were distributed to the poor students studying in government schools in Kodagu, Karnataka.
The blankets were sponsored by Dr.Praveen Ranka, General secretary NCC&HWO, Karnataka, in memory of his late parents. Dr Vasantha said that NCCHWO will continue to felicitate our soldiers . The underprivileged section of society will be helped to empower them to avail opportunities to improve their status and prosper through hard work. The project undertaken by NCCHWO was greatly appreciated by central leadership of NCCHWO.
