It was the struggle and sacrifices of our ancestors that India got independence from the British on 15 August 1947. Thereafter, the soldiers of Indian Armed Forces have been giving supreme sacrifice to uphold Sovereignty and Integrity of the Country. To express gratitude to the Soldiers, a number of programmes were held by NGOs in Jammu to spread stories of Sacrifices and devotion of our soldiers.
A Patriotic programmes was held by Ms Amar Chauhan, who is heading a media channel ,*InfoBug*. The programme was held to encourage Budding young artists and inculcate Nationalistic feelings amongst the youth. Brig Harcharan Singh was invited as Chief Guest .After his felicitation, while addressing the audience, Brig Harcharan Singh highlighted the need to keep interest of country above own needs.He emphasized that youth must read about Indian History and its rich Culture.
Later, during another function , NGO from Jammu *Meri Pehchan*, invited soldiers from Jammu, who have given exemplary contributions in various fields. Brig Harcharan Singh gave out details of contributions made by a Chandigarh based NGO, *NCCHWO*, in the field of Adoption of Veer Naris , in addition to other social work. With the support of Army and NGOs, citizens are looking after the families of Veer Naris and guiding their children.
Also, through another Noida based NGO, *War Wounded Foundation*, sincere efforts are being made to address problems of War Wounded Soldiers . Around 20 Modified Scooters and Autos have been presented to our War Wounded Soldiers of J&K.
MD of Meri Pehchan,Ms Sandhya Gupta, felicitated imminent personalities,including nine soldiers. Brig Harcharan Singh, VSM and Col Virender Kumar Sahi, VrC, both members of NCCHWO, were felicitated during the function. Col Sahi also gave out stories of his War experience and social work.
Both programmes are indicators that the country men are now becoming aware that *Independence is not Free, it Costs Soldiers and Sacrifices*. With the security concerns of India, there is a requirement of close synergy and interaction between Armed Forces and the Citizens. These programmes were held to pay tribute to the sacrifices of the soldiers and contribution made by them even after retirement. It was a true display of spirit of new India , through slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan and Jai Vigyan. It also highlighted constructive role played by NGOs in nation building.
