NCCHWO extends Golden Membership of its organization to Soldiers and Veer Naris, who are true leaders and icons for our youth. Capt Bana Singh,PVC and Col Virendra Kumar Sahi, VrC are both affiliated to NCCHWO ,  to motivate  our youth wuth their saga of bravery. Army has a tradition to  name important places/buildings after the name of its great Soldiers,as a mark of respect. Recently, the Entry Gate to Army Garrison at Sunderbani, J&K, has been named  as Virendra Dwar, to pay respect to unparallel bravery of Col Virendra Kumar Sahi, VrC, during battle of Laleali, J&K.

Laleali Army post in J&K was a  witness to a very ferocious battle, when on 7 Dec 1971, Pakistanis attacked  this isolated Infantry Company under the  command of (then) Maj Virendra Kumar Sahi.  Surrounded by the enemy from all directions, the  Company of 8 Jak Light Infantry was subjected to five determined attacks by the enemy, supported by heavy Artillery fire. All attacks were beaten back with heavy losses to the enemy with about 80 dead. In one such attack,  hand to hand combat ensued, with   deadly duel between Maj  Virendra and the enemy attack force Commander. Enemy Commander was killed by Col (then Major) Virendra Sahi in bayonet fight.

Own troops were starved for water and were overwhelmingly outnumbered but put a very gallant fight under the resolute and unflinching determination, courage and leadership of their Company Commander. Col Virendra Kumar Sahi was conferred with the third highest Gallantry Decoration of Vir Chakra, for his  exemplary courage and effective war tactics,in the face of the enemy.

Battle of Laleali is taught in Army as a sample  a "Very fierce battle fought with sheer grit, guts and determination against overwhelming enemies and heavy odds".

Harcharan, National Chairman Deepak Sharma, National President Rekha Bhooshan said that we and whole family of NCCHWO proud of Indian Army and presence of War Heros like Col Virendra Kumar Sahi, VrC with us, as the Golden  member of NCCHWO.
